Stand Up For What You Believe In!

Stand up for what you believe in, but don’t expect everyone to agree with you!

If you are waiting for everyone to agree with you then you will die a very slow death. In fact, my view is that if people do agree with everything you do and say, then you are possibly not challenging them enough to think for themselves.

But before you can do this, you must have a clear understanding of what you actually do believe. Do you know what your deal breakers are, or what you would die on your sword for?

Not knowing this just adds to our stress and our confusion!

Control what you can control and leave the rest to take care of itself.

Isn’t it funny how we spend less time on the things that we can control and more time on the things that we can’t. That is why so many people are frustrated, lack inspiration and never really know what they stand for.

Seriously, if you can’t control something, then you might be able to influence it, but if you can’t do that then learn to let it go. Unless it goes against everything that you fundamentally believe in, then it is just not worth the angst that it causes. Move on!

The things you cannot control will rob you of your energy and passion.

So Disturbers, it is all about getting disturbed about the things that really matter and not getting roped in to the things that don’t.

Ask yourself these questions, personally and professionally:

  • Do I know what I believe in and what I would fight for?
  • Am I spending too much time focusing on the things that I cannot control?
  • Am I getting stressed over things that really don’t matter in the long run?
  • Could I be more effective if I changed the things I focused on?
  • Am I prepared to take a step back and change my focus?

If you answer YES to question five, then you are on your way to rediscovering, time, energy and passion.

Hey Disturbers, let’s get disturbed together – but only on the things that matter!

What a very good summary of a lot of people I work with. They spend so much energy fighting things that will not change, things that are not fair (their opinion) that they become very difficult and resistant to any change.

Hey Kaz , thanks again for your insight. Sorry about the delay but I took some time off to head overseas.Don’t get me started on this subject because it would take a great deal for anyone to convince me that we need to bear arms. Anyhow, from a fellow alien with horns, keep up the good work.

      Cheers

    Morning Des

I had an interesting tête-a-tête on LinkedIn the other day on the highly touchy subject of whether guns should be banned in the USA (what was I thinking lol).

The more I am exposed to new and innovative thinking and ideas, the more I can’t help but feel that humanity has been conditioned to believe what they have come to believe over time and whilst there are those among us willing to disturb the status quo and evolve such beliefs, many are unwilling to budge or open themselves up to any alternative. My take on the matter is that if certain subjects are more damaging than effective, then they should be opened up to a little disturbance and new debate.

Case in point: where getting hold of a gun is as easy as buying a loaf of bread (in the US at least), I (boldly some might say) questioned whether the validity of the “Right to Bear Arms” Amendment was still appropriate in modern US. After all, with so many incidents of what the media have called “disgruntled teenagers”, shooting schoolmates and teachers because of their perceived notion that they had been slighted by a comment or action of another, there has to be a point when the ease of accessing guns under an Amendment put in place 150 years ago, should be appropriately challenged.

One chap retorted with such anger that I had clearly awakened his mind to an alternative that he did not want to acknowledge and he reacted before fully contemplating my comment. I raised the question because everyone on the forum was complaining about the lack of enforced gun control in some US states, but nobody was prepared to disturb the obvious. Although I was, after a wee bit of tooing and froing on the subject it was obvious I was an alien with horns, and was not going to sway opinion with this particular chap, so I bowed out of the conversation.

A heavy subject to reference I know, but you are quite right – some things are most definitely worth fighting for – but some are tantamount to lighting touch paper with a cannon and are sometimes best left alone.

    Lesson learnt.

Have a great day and thanks for the brain awakening posts.

    Kaz
