After a very tough year in 2019 where many people struggled with revenue downturns and others struggled to even get through, there seems to be a small turn around happening out in the marketplace right now.
Businesses are realising that you cannot continue to not invest in resources and in staff development, otherwise it will start to impact on the organisation in a negative way.
So, although not gale force conditions yet, there seems to be a ‘wind of change’ happening and leaders are now wanting to build on their year of consolidation.
I simply don’t listen to some of the commentary that is happening in the media at the moment, because if I did, I would just give up and shut down, I prefer to take control and determine my own destiny, both personally and professionally.
So, I encourage everyone to join me in FLIPPING our business thinking – because life and work can be amazing if we want them to be.
The opportunities we have in 2020 are incredible. The ability to grow and develop have never been so accessible and HOPE is ours if we take it.
This week I had one of the most inspirational experiences that I have had in the last 10 years. I was asked to be a guest speaker at my old school, Adelaide High School, to speak to several hundred student leaders, teachers and parents at their annual Leadership assembly – it is a day I will never forget, in fact, I have not experienced such a positive time nor such a positive culture in a very long time.
Next week I will tell you the whole story, but I need to say, having met the graduating class and the new leaders for 2020, that our world is not only positive and good, it is also in good hands, if the student leaders I met have anything to do with running it.
I am not sure who was impacted the most, the audience, or me, but what I do know is that I was inspired once again to be bold and to create the change I wish to see.
Although we need to be aware of what is happening around us and prepare for risk, it is up to us to create our own futures and not to do so is simply allowing other people and circumstances to do it for us.
Sometimes we all just need a reminder of what is possible if we were to take our minds back to focusing on our purpose and displaying gratitude for what we have, not for what we don’t have.
So, have an amazing and positive week and remember – sometimes we win and sometimes we learn.
