Hi everyone,
These past few weeks I have started to travel again for business, and I am not sure if I like it anymore!
Prior to COVID it was a part of my job that I really enjoyed and considered it a privilege to be able to do it. Now I am more hesitant and not enjoying the security lines, the lack of service, the packed planes, the delays, and the overall grumpiness, and wondering if that person with the cough is going to infect us all.
Now, I know I am not alone here, because many leaders I know have relayed the same sentiments to me about their experiences and their hesitancy to really get back out there.
What it has done though is make us evaluate whether we really need to travel, or could we communicate the same way we have been for the past 2+ years, and in the process reduce costs.
But there is a real upside to being on the move again, as there is nothing like that face-to-face interaction with team members. People you haven’t physically been with for a long period of time.
Last week I was in QLD, SA & VIC in the same week and it was great to catch up with my co-workers again. There are some people in my own organisation who I have not even met face-to-face yet.
So, my advice to me is to ‘Suck it up’ and enjoy the outcome, not necessarily the journey.
However, I guess my three take-away points from all this is are:
As I have said right through this COVID period, it is what it is, and it is up to us to adapt and make it better.
So, until next week, keep the communication up with your teams, whatever way you have the privilege to do it.
