Hi everyone, first of all, let me thank everyone who responded to last week’s EDM on – ‘Is It Unprofessional To Scream,’ it obviously rang true with many people, especially the ‘Inspirational Fairy Floss’ term. But as we said last week, we have now screamed, so let’s move on.
I am a great believer in respecting authority and in most cases, believe that people are truly doing the best they can, but at the moment I feel like many of our leaders are really struggling with outdated strategic approaches, rather than learning to just make it up as they go. Because that’s what adapting is.
So, what does that mean?
We have been trained to be strategic and to get all our ducks in a row, but that is incredibly hard to do now when half the ducks don’t want to fly, and others are flying off in their own direction.
Well, believe it or not, the situation we find ourselves in right now can be, if we let it, one of the most progressive and entrepreneurial growth times of our lives, but we must be prepared to take risks, make decisions and make it up as we go.
So, what does ‘making it up as we go’ really mean?
Well, we have been told to pivot and adapt for the past two years, thinking we would then return to our highly planned strategic existences, but that hasn’t happened. Guess what – it never will! So, what does that mean for us? We just have to keep making it up as we go.
The reason so many businesses and individuals are struggling now is because they refused to make the changes they needed to, when they needed to and so they struggle with anything outside of the norm.
But the great thing is that it is never too late to adapt!
But to do that we need to focus on developing different skills such as: creative thinking, entrepreneurship, bravery and making decisions that matter.
The way we now work is different, but who determines what it should look like for you and your workplace?
Do we just fall into a perceived new existence and follow like sheep or, do we get creative and make it up as we go? Are we open to putting everything on the table constantly, while we create our own models of work/delivery and productivity.
Don’t let the pressures of who people think you should be mold you into what you don’t want to be.
It’s time to be outliers, to speak the truth and be bold, while creating our own unique way of existing and growing. The wonderful Brené Browne is a great example of this.
But remember, when care is the foundation of what we do and the decisions we make, then we can do anything!
Make it up as you go – it is exhilarating!
